Chapter 2
Mission types
There are currently four possible mission types, and numerous subtypes (combinations of several types).
The basic mission
Contains a flight plan, abriefing text and eventually env files, textures and objects. This is perfectly good for simple sight seeing tours around our ESP scenery.
The weather mission
Contains everything a basic mission contains, but also makes use of real weather files during the mission. This gives you the option to control the weather changes during the mission. Good for adding a time pressure factor to the mission... be back in 20 minutes, or you'll get in trouble... also suited to create training lessons for landings under changing conditions.
The audio mission
Contains the same as the basic mission, but contains in addition a couple of audio files that are played along a timeline or triggered through user input (keyboard). Very nice to make guided tours, training, and enhance the simming experience overall.
The geoTrigger missions
Again, contains everything a basic mission contains, but additionally, a geotrigger definition file listing geographical "hotspots" (areas). Entering one of those hotspots activates certain tasks (currently shuffling rwx files and playing audio snippets). This mission offers tremendous options for mission creation. You can use geotriggers to fire an SOS call only within a small area (weak sender...), or you can change the winds when the aircraft leaves the sheltering valley, you can give the pilot instructions when he enters a certain area and many more things you can do.
Anything beyond the basic mission requires either EarCandy and Hektor 1.2 or Hektor 1.5:
Basic mission: X-Plane 5.23+
RWX mission: X-Plane & Hektor 1.2/EarCandy 2.1
Audio mission: X-Plane & Hektor 1.2/EarCandy 2.1
GeoTrigger: X-Plane & Hektor 1.5 (EC comming soon)
Now, go back to your plot. What features do you need to transform the plot into an exciting mission?
Not always are the complex mission the best choice. Think thoroughly about how to use the features, 'cause each feature you want to have means more work... again: if you build a good plot, a simple rwx mission can get very exciting.
